An electronic alarm system is a set of devices that work together through a network to detect and deter unauthorised intrusion. These systems are used worldwide to protect residential, commercial and industrial properties.
Individually, alarm system components have come a long way in the past decade, but the overall system setup has essentially remained the same. Motion detectors, together with door and window sensors, are used to secure entry points. If an event such as a break in occurs, these sensors will send an alarm to a control panel, which in turn triggers a high-decibel siren or alarm that is typically installed at the front of the property.
Many sites now choose to further integrate their alarm systems with onsite access control and CCTV for additional security and system capability. Often, these will also have back-to-base or mobile monitoring installed, ensuring a triggered alarm is acted on regardless of whether the audible siren on site is heard.
